American Dream Project Challenges College Students to Change the World

Emmy Award winning writer, activist and leadership expert Will Marre, will be speaking to the students of New York Institute of Technology on November 30 at 1:00 p.m. His speech is one of a series sponsored by the American Dream Project (AmericanDreamProject.org) created to help students face their future with hope and tools to solve the big, global problems we currently face.

New York, NY (Issues Wire / PRWEB) November 24, 2006 -- Emmy Award winning writer, activist and leadership expert Will Marre, will be speaking to the students of New York Institute of Technology on November 30 at 1:00 p.m. His speech is one of a series sponsored by the American Dream Project (AmericanDreamProject.org) created to help students face their future. Marre will discuss recent economic, social and political trends which present significant challenges and unprecedented opportunities.

Recent polls reveal that nearly 90% of students up to age 25 don't feel their interests are represented by either the Republicans or Democrats. Concerns about the high cost of education, housing, gasoline, stagnant wages, environmental depletion and global job disruptions resulting from decades of uninspired leadership leave young Americans searching for something more.

That 'more,' is made of each of us
"That 'more,' is made of each of us" says Marre. "We have a unique opportunity to leverage our knowledge with action, using emerging technology tools and the pervasive nature of the internet to make a dramatic difference from the current status quo. I believe we have that platform, and the time is right".

In the speech, "What is Your Dream?" Marre proposes the Jeffersonian ideals of 'the pursuit of happiness' is more than a million dollar mortgage and a platinum credit card. He draws heavily on the American Dream Project research revealing invisible trends of popular culture, philanthropy, social entrepreneurialism, zero waste environmentalism, social accountability, consumer choices and internet social networks that are establishing new institutions. They leapfrog solutions to America's most pressing problems.

Marre's message is a positive call to action: "Humanity may have only 40 years to change the world 'before it's too late.' All of us are responsible to make a difference right where we stand. You can pursue self understanding and focus your highest abilities toward your deepest desires to achieve a life you most value. This is truly within your reach, and fully satisfying, engaging, empowering. This is the life you were meant to live."

The presentation concludes with an invitation to students to post their personal dreams, concerns and desires for change at MyDreamMatters.com. The results will be presented to Congress next year.

The American Dream Project sponsors live college events and web casts. Marre's "What is Your Dream" has recently been presented in association with PBS stations which are airing the award winning learning documentary "Reclaiming Your American Dream." Events have been held in Atlanta, Phoenix, San Diego, Boston, Chicago, Washington D.C. and Silicon Valley.
