School Choice Advocates Call for Effective Parental Options in No Child Left Behind

18 State and National Groups Urge Congress, President Bush to Include Effective, Meaningful Choice in Reauthorization of No Child Left Behind

Washington, DC (Issues Wire / PRWEB) September 14, 2007 -- As Congress works to reauthorize the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 this month, the national, non-profit Advocates for School Choice and more than a dozen additional education advocacy groups called upon President Bush, the United States Congress, and Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings to include meaningful and effective school choice options in the law.

Asking lawmakers to "imagine if your child was in a failing school for five years--nearly half of his or her K-12 education?" the signatories advocated for promise scholarship programs and national opportunity scholarships, which are designed to give low-income parents of students in schools that have failed for three years in a row the ability to choose the public or private schools that best meet the needs of their children.

imagine if your child was in a failing school for five years--nearly half of his or her K-12 education?
The letter was distributed in a full-page advertisement in the September 12, 2007 edition of The Hill newspaper, and to each member of Congress.
