When Space Is Tight Put a Sport Court on Your Roof

The American Embassy School in New Delhi solves its space and safety challenges by constructing a Sport Court game court on its roof.

New Delhi, India (Issues Wire / PRWEB) January 27, 2008 -- At the American Embassy School here, the administrators had a problem: how to provide a safe place for students to conduct athletic activities.

They found the solution in Connor Sport Court International's (CSCI) Sport Court Power Game™ sport surfacing by installing it on the roof of the school.

"In the past year we had to eliminate one of our pre-existing sports grounds to build new facilities for our middle school, and we needed to find another safe area for the students to engage in sporting activities in both physical education classes and after school sports clubs," said Marty Tromburg, chief business officer of the American Embassy School (AES).

"Sport Court® allowed us to do that on the roof of our own athletic building," said Tromburg.

The AES school New Delhi is a repeat customer for Sport Court. In 2001 they purchased a substantial amount of Sport Court's Response 6.0, one of Sport Court's indoor products, for their aerobics/nautilus equipment rooms.

The school is a private U.S. school and is attended by children of U.S. diplomats living in New Delhi, as well as by children of other nationalities.

The new Sport Court surfacing gives the school the ability to expand their sports facility usage with safe, competitive, durable and highly appealing American colors," said Ryan Burke, International Manager of CSCI. Connor Sport Court is headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah.

"The porous design of Sport Court Power Game's modules eliminates drainage issues during the monsoon season in India: the rain water simply drains through to the pre-existing sloped sub-base and dries when the sun comes out, maximizing usage time for physical education classes and after school sports and recreation," Burke said.

"Sport Court's free-floating application process (no glue or adhesives are used) reduced the need for engineering and construction preparation on the limited-access rooftop. A team of workers simply carried the Sport Court boxes up the stairs and the Power Game surfacing tiles were installed on the sub-base," said Burke.

"There was no need to sacrifice pre-existing rooftop waterproofing membranes or use heavy installation equipment. Eight workers completed the job in two days," Burke added.

Cardiomed India was CSCI's New Delhi partner in selling and installing the project, their first for Sport Court, said Burke.
