Alley Cat Allies New Web Site -- A Comprehensive Resource for Outdoor-Cat Advocates

Alley Cat Allies, the national advocate for stray and feral cats, announced the re-launch of www.alleycat.org, the official Internet resource for people who care about outdoor cats and want to put an end to animal control and shelter policies that kill them.

Bethesda, MD (Issues Wire / PRWEB) August 1, 2008 -- Alley Cat Allies, the national advocate for stray and feral cats, announced the re-launch of www.alleycat.org the official Internet resource for people who care about outdoor cats and want to put an end to animal control and shelter policies that kill them.

The new web site features resources for feral cat colony caregivers, veterinarians, policymakers, journalists and the general public, including comprehensive information on Trap-Neuter-Return, a humane approach to outdoor cat care. The site also offers tools to help inform Americans about the policies that lead to death for cats in shelters and why those policies must be reformed.

We know there is enormous support for reform
"We are calling for revolutionary change in our nation's animal-shelter practices and policies," said Becky Robinson, president of Alley Cat Allies. "Most people believe shelters exist to protect animals. Tragically, the reverse is often the case - the institutional killing of cats in animal pounds and shelters is the leading documented cause of death for cats in the United States."

Research shows that more than 70 percent of cats who enter pounds and shelters are killed there, said Robinson. For feral cats, that number rises to virtually 100 percent.

"We know there is enormous support for reform," said Robinson, citing Alley Cat Allies' national survey conducted by Harris Interactive, which found that an overwhelming number of Americans - 81 percent - preferred to let an outdoor cat live out her life outside than have her caught and killed. "That is why we are mobilizing the public and working to fix our broken sheltering system," said Robinson.

At the new www.alleycat.org, visitors can join national and local campaigns and take action to change public policy and stop the killing; and learn how to implement lifesaving programs that protect cats, such as Trap-Neuter-Return programs and low-cost, high-volume spay and neuter services.

Visitors can also sign up to receive Alley Cat Allies' regular action alerts and newsletters; and access brochures, guides and how-to videos by Alley Cat Allies on a wealth of subjects, including feral cat colony care.
