INPUT: $120B in Contracts from the Top 20 Federal Business Opportunities of 2009

Recompete and consolidation contracts account for 100% of all the top 20 federal opportunities

Reston, VA (Issues Wire / Vocus) October 3, 2008 -- At the beginning of each federal fiscal year, INPUT, the authority on government business, identifies and assesses the top 20 federal contract opportunities for the coming year. In this year's report, INPUT has identified over $120 Billion in contract value found in the top 20 federal procurements for fiscal year 2009. All of this year's top 20 represent recompetitions of existing contracts or consolidation initiatives.

Even though the DoD leads the way with the highest valued opportunity, civilian agency opportunities now account for 38% of the Top 20's value
"This year's list very much reflects the state of the market," said Vajira Ranaviraja, senior analyst at INPUT. "With the imminent change in administration, federal agencies are focusing on maintaining steady state activities and looking for opportunities to consolidate activities and drive out costs." said Ranaviraja.

The list, Top 20 Federal Business Opportunities of FY 2009, is in many ways a contrast to the previous year's list. While the 2009 list is loaded with Defense Department (DoD) acquisitions representing over 60% of the total contract value, the civilian agencies have increased significantly over FY 2008.

"Even though the DoD leads the way with the highest valued opportunity, civilian agency opportunities now account for 38% of the Top 20's value," stated Ranaviraja.

INPUT's Top 20 Federal Business Opportunities of FY 2009 industry report is available on INPUT's website at http://www.input.com/corp/library/detail.cfm?ItemID=7595&cmp=OTC-top20opps.

EDITOR'S NOTE: To speak with Vajira Ranaviraja, the report author, please contact Helena Brito at hbrito@input.com or 703-707-4161.
