Santa Claus is Coming to Town

When a Southwest Airlines jet skidded off the runway in a snowstorm at Midway Airport, it crashed through a barrier and slammed into the family car of Joshua Woods that was on a nearby street.

The six-year-old was singing "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" when he was killed before the eyes of his parents and two brothers, who also were hurt. The family brought a lawsuit in Cook County Circuit Court (Woods v. Southwest Airlines, No. 06 L 3686, 2006) which was removed to federal court (Woods v Southwest Airlines, No. 06 C 2203, N.D.Ill., 2006). The case later settled, but the issue continues to come up in aviation cases.
