Global Fight Against Child Hunger Featured in New Short Film: McGovern-Dole School Lunch Program Highlighted

A new short film, "Ending Child Hunger: School Lunches for Kids Around the World," highlights the use of school lunch programs in the fight against child hunger. The McGovern-Dole Food for Education program is featured.

Cincinnati, OH (Issues Wire / PRWEB) March 7, 2008 -- A new short film highlights the use of school lunch programs in the fight against the hunger that afflicts 300 million children worldwide. "Ending Child Hunger: School Lunches for Kids Around the World" calls for the expansion of the McGovern-Dole Food for Education program as part of this global effort.

McGovern-Dole is a U.S. government program that funds school lunch programs in impoverished countries. Charities like World Vision, CARE, Food for the Poor and the World Food Program carry out the school lunch initiatives via McGovern-Dole funding. The Congress is currently considering whether to expand the McGovern-Dole program as part of this year's Farm Bill, with a final decision coming in weeks.

Ending Child Hunger: School Lunches for Kids Around the World
The film highlights the use of school lunch programs in Europe following World War II and how they can be used today in countries like Afghanistan, Kenya and Sudan. The footage includes the Stara School in Kenya which is run by the charity ChildsLife International (www.childslife.org). ChildsLife International hopes to expand school feeding projects in the Kibera slum in Kenya.

William Lambers directed the film, which is based on his book "The Spirit of the Marshall Plan: Taking Action Against World Hunger: School Lunches for Kids Around the World." The film made its debut at a Cincinnati Authors class at the College of Mount St. Joseph in Ohio on February 28th, where Lambers was a guest speaker. Mr. Lambers is a member of the World Food Program Committee of Ohio, an outreach initiative of the Friends of the World Food Program (www.friendsofwfp.org).

The film is available on the YouTube site at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2Q8-Fnhfss.

PTV Productions of Hampton Beach, NH, produced the video and veteran voice-over talent Craig Burnett provided the narration.
