DARPA Selects ISS to Transition Machine Learning Technology

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has chosen Intelligent Software Solutions to transition elements of several of DARPA's machine and task learning programs.

(Issues Wire / Vocus) April 15, 2008 -- The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has chosen Intelligent Software Solutions to transition elements of several of DARPA's machine and task learning programs. The ISS effort will focus on the transition of technologies developed by a consortium of academia and industry. These technologies are focused on reducing the cognitive workload and increasing the efficiency of human analysts and operators.

Intelligent Software Solutions

The DARPA technologies will be transitioned into the Air Force's Web Enabled Temporal Analysis toolkit, developed and maintained by ISS. Technologies to be transitioned include novel techniques for the clustering of semantically similar information, as well as the abstraction of queries into human readable forms. Additional efforts will provide smart instrumentation of applications to develop machine pattern learning capabilities. These techniques will provide operators with smart assistance in complex and repetitive tasks. This technology will be applied to real world data sets and its efficacy proven, as it is transitioned into the fielded baseline of WebTAS software.

According to Carl Houghton, Vice President of Strategic Planning at ISS, "WebTAS and its related programs presently have a vast and diverse set of operational users around the world who will benefit from these capabilities. These technologies will add power to the already versatile set of analytical capabilities available in the WebTAS tool kit. The transition of this cutting edge DARPA technology demonstrates the continued commitment of ISS to pushing the envelope in our technology pipeline."
