Today's New C-level Executive: Research from CarterBaldwin Executive Search Shows what Companies Hire for Now

Executive Search Profile Study reveals that companies are hiring a different profile for CFOs, CEOs, and CIOs
With turnover reaching new levels for corporate executives, this study offers insights into how individuals need to package themselves to maximize their marketability for top positions.

Roswell, GA (Issues Wire / PRWEB) September 9, 2008 -- CarterBaldwin Executive Search, a leading provider of retained executive search services, today announced findings from their 2008 Executive Search Profile Study, which gathers data from actual executive hires among Fortune 1,000 firms in the last 12 months.

"What worked when hiring for director, vice president and C-level executive positions three years ago, doesn't work today," says David Sobocinski, Managing Partner at CarterBaldwin Executive Search. "With turnover reaching new levels for corporate executives, this study offers insights into how individuals need to package themselves to maximize their marketability for top positions." Highlights of the study include:

  • In the past, hiring committees favored prospects with strong financial backgrounds. Today, marketing-oriented leaders with a solid financial acumen are more in demand. Driving top line revenue growth is critical in today's marketplace. The vast majority of C-level executives must prove success in identifying what customers want and then delivering it.
  • To be competitive once an offer is made, the prospective C-level executive must understand recent trends in compensation packages and look to their search executive consultant for guidance. C-suite total short-term compensation is declining as boards increasingly link pay to long-term performance. This means cash incentives are dropping, but long-term incentives in the form of equity continue to be a core component.
  • Companies seek leaders with charismatic personalities who can connect with a wide variety of stakeholders--employees, investors and the board
  • The ability to attract strong professionals to a team that, while offering diversity in perspectives and opinions, can work together to meet short and long term business objectives is critical. When top executives are approachable, team members are more likely to work with them and embrace their vision for the future of the organization.

CarterBaldwin's data is drawn from top-performing companies who used their services in the last 12 months. CarterBaldwin's roster of Fortune 1,000 clients includes firms from a variety of industries, including T-mobile, Arby's, Newell Rubbermaid, Unisource Worldwide, Husqvarna, InterContinental Hotels Group, and General Dynamics.

A two-page summary of top findings from the 2008 Executive Search Profile Study can be obtained by contacting Jodi Delikat at CarterBaldwin.
