Contractors Should Focus On Policy-Enabling Technology to Prepare for Administration Transition, According to Input Report
Opportunities exist within contractors accommodating to new administration needs
Reston, VA (Issues Wire / Vocus) July 3, 2008 -- Key technology areas in the next administration will be those that enable the government performance, healthcare, environmental, and homeland security priorities shared among the Presidential candidates. According to a recent report from INPUT, the authority on government business, these policy areas show promise for contractors looking to tighten solution portfolios because they rely so heavily on technology.
Regardless of who takes the White House, the Iraq war and Global War on Terror (GWOT) will continue to dominate the federal IT budget due to the need to refresh equipment and technology and rebuild the armed services. But candidates are also focused on other areas of government that will require technology investments to bring their campaign agendas to fruition. Candidates’ plans for increased visibility into government contracting and spending require broad information sharing and security capabilities. Healthcare reform, energy efficiency, and homeland security are other consistent themes across both parties, and technology solutions that support them will be attractive to a new administration trying to improve the overall efficiency of the government.
"Solutions that address business improvement and infrastructure and application modernization will be key opportunity areas for contractors," stated Deniece Peterson, senior analyst for INPUT. "Information sharing, Health IT, Green IT, and Unified Communications are very promising areas for investment because all of the candidates recognize the role they can play in improving how government operates and delivers services."
Senator Obama presents a more detailed technology agenda, however both candidates appear to recognize the role technology can play in helping them make progress on campaign promises.
