Ontario Public Service To Hold Virtual Open House in Second Life

Staff members from the real world offices of the Ontario Public Service (OPS) will hold a career information session in their virtual world recruitment center in Second Life, an online virtual world. OPS staff will entertain questions about working in public service jobs in Canada's most exciting and populous province.

New York and Toronto (Issues Wire / PRWEB) June 20, 2008 -- Several Real-World staff members from Canada's Ontario Public Service will hold a 90 minute career informational session in Second Life on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at 4:00pm Second Life Time (Pacific Time) to answer questions about working with one of Canada's largest public employers. The interactive event will take place on the Ontario Public Service Island in Second Life, and will feature members of the Public Service's real world career recruitment and digital marketing teams.

Ontario Public Service careers are unlike any other career - every day, 12 million Ontarians are affected by the work of OPS employees. As Canada's most populous province, Ontario has over 60,000 public service careers that range in scope from civil engineering to public safety and protection, to legal and medical roles, and beyond. The Ontario Public Service has been actively publicizing some of the open career positions through an interactive career recruitment center in the virtual world of Second Life since early this year.

We're looking forward to this event as it gives interested visitors a chance to speak with the actual people working with the Ontario Public Service on what a career would be like in the Ontario Province.
The recruitment center is on OPS Careers Island in Second Life. On the virtual world island, users can interact with various interactive career experiences that showcase everything from virtual firefighting to real world traffic analysis and more. The goal of the interactive island is to drive interest and inquiries for real world career positions, directing users to their central careers website and view available job opportunities.

At the June 24th event, several real world OPS staff members will answer questions from engaged Second Life users, some of whom have been testing virtual water samples and practicing virtual CPR for months at the virtual recruitment center. The OPS staff will stress the period of renewal and modernization that OPS is going through - new, cutting-edge ideas, like complimenting traditional career recruiting with virtual recruitment in Second Life, are rewarded and embraced.

Louis Mourelatos, VP, TheSLAgency, the Second Life design and marketing agency influence behind the OPS presence, noted: "We're looking forward to this event as it gives interested visitors a chance to speak with the actual people working with the Ontario Public Service on what a career would be like in the Ontario Province."
